No successor has so far been appointed to police chief C.D. Wickramaratne, who retired yesterday (26).
State-media has reported that the president has given Wickramaratne a three-month service extension, but that is yet to be confirmed officially by the Presidential Secretariat.
Therefore, he has not reported for duty today.
In the meantime, public security minister Tiran Alles is reportedly receiving treatment for an illness.
A senior ministry official claimed he was unaware of any development with regard to the post of IGP.
