A cabinet paper will be submitted this week to pay the basic salaries of nearly 3,000 state sector employees who are candidates at the local government polls, said subject minister Janaka Wakkumbura.
This is pursuant to a recommendation given by the Election Commission, he said.
As election candidates, they are on duty leave without any entitlement to salary or allowance.
