Labour minister Manusha Nanayakkara alleges trade union leaders use women for their political gains.

He was addressing an international women’s day function at the Labour Department in Narahenpita yesterday (16).

Being the highest dollar earner for the country, women should not be impeded by laws specifically targeting them such as foreign employment, night duty etc., said the minister.

TU leaders who should be looking after their granddaughters in their old age speak against using women on night duty, he said.

Nanayakkara urged the working people not to fall victim to opportunists who were preying on every sector.

The latest strike took all and sundry to the streets, although the new tax affected a mere 85,000 of them, he said.
