Supplies to the canteen at the parliamentary complex are not taking place properly due to outstanding payments to the suppliers, reports said.

MPs allege that they are not getting even eggs and milk now.

At the same time, the cost of running the canteen has now exceeded Rs. 10 million, with an increase of around 30 per cent, due to the increase in electricity, gas and foods, ‘Lankadeepa’ reports.

Furthermore, over 60 pc of the cost goes to supply food for the parliamentary staff numbering nearly 2,000, with MPs patronizing the canteen around eight days a month, when the House is in session.

Officials say the wastage of food, provided at concessionary prices, is at a high level as well.
