State sector officials are required to travel economy class only when going abroad with effect from March 01, said a circular issued by the secretary to the president.

The circular said the current economic and financial difficulties make it imperative that government funds are utilized prudently for essential purposes only.

Issued on the directive of the president, it exempted the chief justice, justices of the Supreme Court and the chairman and the justices of the Court of Appeal from this requirement.

In the event an officer needs to travel business class, it is possible to do so after personally bearing the cost difference between an economy class ticket and a business class ticket.

If an officer needs to travel business class utilizing government funds for an exclusive reason, that officer should submit sufficient facts and obtain prior approval from the secretary to the president, added the circular.
