Student leader Wasantha Mudalige has vowed to make a major intervention to get the PTA abolished by raising awareness among the southern society about the act that has caused people of the north and the east to suffer for many years.

The IUSF convener gave the promise at a discussion in Colombo yesterday (21) organized by trade unions and people’s organizations against the PTA.

Mudalige is himself a victim of the PTA that kept him in remand custody for five months following his arrest from a student protest in August 2022.

He said an approach would be made to get all persons presently behind bars for political reasons by getting the ‘cruel and barbaric’ act abolished, without allowing it to exist under a different name.
