Police have temporarily recalled its personnel from duties at the local government polls due on March 09.

In a notice by IGP C.D. Wickremaratne, personnel were withdrawn from election-related dispute resolution centres at 25 district secretariats, said the police headquarters.

This is in line with an Election Commission decision to remove its staff from these centres temporarily.

Each centre had 11 police personnel on duty.

Duty changes for election officials

Election officials have been told in writing about a change to their duties in view of the indefinite postponement of the postal voting for the LG polls.

The commissioner general of elections has instructed that normal duty hours will apply for the staff from February 18 and overtime payments for election duties suspended.

All election offices will be kept closed at weekends and on public holidays.

The services of casual workers and those recalled from retirement as well as vehicle rentals are on hold as well.

However, police protection will continue for the offices until further notice.
