Local election monitor PAFFREL says it will complain to courts with regard to government attempts to prevent the local government polls from taking place.

Its executive director Rohana Hettiarachchi said they will discuss with civil society organizations the need to ensure people’s democratic rights.

Holding the election on March 09 is uncertain due to the finance ministry’s refusal to provide the required funds, he said.

Meanwhile, a JJB team led by its MP Vijitha Herath yesterday (17) handed over a letter by its leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake to the UN office in Colombo on government attempts to postpone the LG polls.
