The Election Commission (EC) says postal ballot papers cannot be issued tomorrow (15) for the March 09 local government polls.
In a statement, the EC said the decision was taken due to unavoidable circumstances beyond its control.
It held talks with secretaries of political parties today with regard to the government printer’s refusal to fulfill printing orders for the LG polls on credit.
After the discussion, several party secretaries alleged the government printer and the attorney general were not assisting the EC to perform its duties.
However, UNP general secretary Palitha Range Bandara said it was wrong to ask Ranil Wickremesinghe for money after handing him a bankrupt country.
