The Supreme Court has postponed until February 23 the hearing of a petition that seeks a postponement of the local government polls scheduled for March 09.
The petitioner is a retired military officer, Col. W. Wijesundara, who seeks an order to put off the LG polls.
Election Commission’s undertaking to hold LG polls
Earlier in the day, the Election Commission gave an undertaking before the SC that it would take steps to hold the election.
Accordingly, the SC concluded the hearing of two writ applications filed seeking a writ order to the EC to hold the election.
