The fourth session of the ninth parliament will be ceremonially declared open tomorrow (08) by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya and the Freedom People’s Council have decided to boycott the ceremony.

SJB national organizer Tissa Attanayake said there was a hidden agenda behind the new session.

FPC’s Prof. G.L. Peiris accused the government of trying to use its House majority and fill parliamentary committees with its members.

Policy statement to be presented by president

The House opening will be a formal ceremony on a presidential directive and gun salutes and motorcades shall not be held, said serjeant-at-arms Narendra Fernando.

The president will present the government policy statement at 10.00 am pursuant to the powers vested in him under Article 33 of the Constitution.

Thereafter, the House will be adjourned until 9.30 am on February 09.
