Colombo now has the first district level multi-purpose resource centre on nongovernmental organizations (NGOs).

The opening of the facility at the Colombo District Secretariat took place on February 01 with Public Security Ministry secretary P. Viyani Gunathilaka as the chief guest.

District secretary K.G. Wijesiri, director general of the NGO Secretariat Sanjeewa Wimalagunarathna and director of the Secretariat Lasadamala Muhandiramage were among those also in attendance.

Colombo district NGO coordinator Amila Kumari proposed establishing such a resource centre to boost the contributions of NGOs to development at national, district, and divisional levels.

Speaking at the opening, secretary Gunathilake said, “This centre will be an excellent platform for all NGOs to display their activities, projects, publications, research, and short films.”

According to DG of the NGO Secretariat Wimalagunarathne, the facility will serve as a resource centre and as well as a place for training and supervision for university students, interns and beginners.

This multipurpose resource centre will help students, NGOs, academics, journalists, and the community at large in finding information about NGO activities and right-based researchers in Sri Lanka.
