A ministerial level investigation is underway against a top official of Milco, who has allegedly obtained a Rs. 100 million bribe.

The state-owned daily company called for a tender to sell 650 metric tons of expired milk powder as animal feed.

A similar tender previously was given to a bidder despite his being blacklisted by a committee appointed by the agriculture minister.

The minister has tasked this committee also with inquiring into how milk powder gets expired at a time when the demand far exceeds the supply.

A top official of the ministry too, is reportedly involved in the scam.

Ministry secretary Gunadasa Samarasinghe has written to the Milco chairman to show cause as to why the tender was given in disregard to the committee recommendation.
