As many as 42 pilots tendered their resignations last week to SriLankan Airlines, according to a top official of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
So far, 85 out of the national carrier’s 240 pilots have applied for the CAA’s letter of pilot certification, said the official.
SriLankan pays 10,000 US dollars a month to a pilot at a dollar rate of Rs. 225, whereas foreign airlines offer between 30,000 USD and 40,000 USD at a Rs. 370 rate and free of tax.
Since December, the dollar rate has been fixed at Rs. 295, said the official.
