Award-winning veteran filmmaker Dr. Sumithra Peiris has died, aged 88.
The wife of the doyen of Sinhala cinema, Lester James Peiris, she had a career spanning 45 years of many memorable films.
Between ‘Gehenu Lamai’ and ‘Vaishnavi’, she directed ‘Ganga Addara’, ‘Sagara Jalaya Madi Henduwa Oba Sanda’, ‘Yahalu Yeheli’, ‘Maya’ and ‘Sakman Maluwa’ to name a few.
Some of these films represented Sri Lanka at international film festivals.
