Imprisonment due to drug-addiction among schoolchildren has now doubled from seven years ago, according to prison spokesman Chandana Ekanayake.
In 2015, he said, 2,600 students in GCE ordinary and advanced level classes were sent to prison for drug-related offences.
The number stood at more than 5,000 by 2021, said Ekanayake.
