The Ministry of Public Security today (22) received 125 new jeeps as the first phase of 500 jeeps to be given to the Police under Indian loan assistance.

High commissioner Gopal Baglay symbolically handed over the jeeps to minister Tiran Alles.

The minister said certain police stations without vehicles would especially benefit from the grant.

He thanked the top Indian diplomat in Colombo for providing the jeeps after three years of effort.

High commissioner Baglay said his government is very happy to provide the new jeeps to maintain law and order, democracy and stability in Sri Lanka.

Ministry secretary S. Hettiarachchi and IGP C.D. Wickremaratne were also present on the occasion.
