A university degree course has been introduced for the police for the first time following 30 long years of discussions.

Public security minister Tiran Alles and vice chancellor of Sri Jayewardenepura University Prof. Sudantha Liyanage signed a related MoU yesterday (12).

The three-year degree course on applied police studies accommodates 150 inspectors and assistant superintendents each year.

IGP C.D. Wickramaratne and UGC chairman Prof. Sampath Amaratunga spoke on the occasion and explained how this became a reality.
