The opposition has moved two petitions seeking an order to the Elections Commission to hold the local government polls.
A case has been filed by the General secretary of the SJB Ranjith Madduma Bandara and Prof. G.L. Peiris.
The other one is by MPs Dayasiri Jayasekara, Lakshman Kiriella, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and M.A. Sumanthiran.
Director general of the commission Saman Sri Ratnayake has said that budget 2023 has approved a Rs. 10 billion expenditure for the LG polls.
