A call has been made for international mediation in the talks proposed by president Ranil Wickremesinghe with Tamil parties.
It comes from secretary of the association of relatives of the missing in the north and the east, G. Rajkumar.
He said, “Tamil leaders should remind themselves of the political history of president Ranil Wickremesinghe who is a wily politician. He is a person who did a lot against Tamil People.”
Speaking to the media in Vavuniya, where almost 2,100 days of a campaign seeks justice for victims of enforced disappearances, he reminded Tamil leaders that Wickremesinghe was answerable to killings of 140,000 Tamils and destruction of their properties during the war.
“Sinhala leaders threw everything they discussed with Tamil leaders into the wastepaper basket. Tamil leaders should remember that history as well,” Rajkumar added.
