Issues of war-affected returnees from India in their resettlement in the Wanni came under discussion a few days ago.

Mullaitivu district secretary K. Wimalanathan chaired the meeting held via zoom technology.

A total of 405 families with 878 members have resettled in the Wanni since 2009.

Wimalanathan promised to raise their concerns with the authorities in Colombo.

They include the issuance of national identity cards, citizenship, birth, death and educational certificates as well as resolving their livelihood and legal problems.

By last year, the Indian interior ministry said, 58,843 Sri Lankan refugees lived in 108 camps in Tamil Nadu and another 34,135 took shelter elsewhere.
