School teachers have demanded an immediate halt to state repression being unleashed on the public for rising up against socio economic issues they are facing.
Principals and teachers met in Colombo on October 05 and also decided to urge authorities to guarantee the freedom of expression.
They adopted a total of six proposals that include a proper mechanism to ensure nutrition and transport needs of schoolchildren and an interim cost-of-living and travelling allowance for teachers.
They also called for the implementation of recommendations by a ministerial subcommittee and another committee to eliminate their salary anomalies.
