Namal Rajapaksa has been appointed chairman of the National Council’s subcommittee on identifying priorities in formulating short, medium and long term policies.

His name was proposed by Sagara Kariyawasam and seconded by Ali Sabri Raheem.

At its meeting yesterday (07), members of the subcommittee presented their opinions and suggestions on the formulation of state policies.

They agreed to summon experts to obtain ideas and proposals to modernize the policies on public administration, health, education, fisheries and food, power and energy and climate change.

The short term proposals are to be submitted within one month, while medium and long term proposals are to be submitted within two and three months respectively.

Meanwhile, Patali Champika Ranawaka has been elected uncontested as chairman of the National Council’s subcommittee on economic stabilization.

His name was proposed by Vajira Abeywardena and seconded by Nazir Ahmed and Mano Ganeshan.

This subcommittee is to introduce an economic stabilization programme within one month.
