MP Namal Rajapaksa had a visit by a group comprising sports association officials, former players and coaches this morning (29), sports circle sources say.
They have told the SLPP politician that local sports are going astray as the Sports Ministry has adopted an arbitrary approach without any plan or vision for the future.
The group urged him to accept the Sports and Youth Affairs Ministry immediately to avoid a grave risk to sports locally.
The MP responded by saying that he was not willing to accept a cabinet portfolio for the present, but conceded that he would consider accepting the said ministry in the future.
The meeting comes after political circles went agog last week with speculation that there would be a change in several ministers including sports, industries and ports.
