A new unit named the counter disinformation unit has been launched by the President’s Media Division with the aim of countering disinformation and to solve public issues speedily.
Its launch coincided with the International Day for Universal Access to Information yesterday (28).
A new webpage “Response” (pmd.gov.lk/counter-disinformation-unit) was initiated by secretary to the president Saman Ekanayake at the President’s Office in Colombo.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ranga Kalansooriya said that as introduced by the Right to Information Act, pro-active disclosure of government information can reduce the damage caused to society by disinformation.
Director General Government Information Department Dinith Karunaratne, Director General of the PMD Dhanushka Ramanayake, Director President Media (Editorial) D.M. Piyasena were also present.
