Relatives of missing persons are deeply concerned that the 51st session of the UN Human Rights Council has failed to stress the need for an international inquiry against the Sri Lankan state.

Speaking to the media in Mullaitivu today (13), they said they were pained by the UNHRC’s not taking up the issue of the missing and political prisoners.

Instead, it has focused on the island’s economic crisis and related corruption and fraud committed by politicians, said president of the association of relatives of missing persons in Mullaitivu, Mariyasuresh Ishwari.

The UN and the international community know we are calling for justice by placing their trust in them, she said, adding that instead of focusing on humanity and human rights, they were now talking about unimportant issues.
