The cabinet has approved a proposal by the president to appoint senior journalist Dinith Chinthaka Karunaratne as the Director General of Government Information.
With incumbent Mohan Samaranayake due to retire on August 31, Karunaratne is expected to take up duties on the following day.
Karunaratne, an editorial member of ‘Lankadeepa’ newspaper, was previously a media advisor to the president.
Meanwhile, sources at the president’s office say Additional Director General of Government Information Milinda Rajapakse is likely to be removed from the position.
