President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has consented to form an Interim Government with a Cabinet of Ministers led by a new Prime Minister, former President and Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Maithripala Sirisena said.

Sirisena also said that the President had agreed to establish a National Council that would advise the President and the Cabinet of Ministers as well as decide on appointing the Prime Minister, Cabinet of Ministers, Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General.

President Rajapaksa held talks today morning with the group of 11 parties who have decided to remain independent regarding the formation of an all-party government.
