JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake today tabled a copy of the Yugadanavi agreement between the Government of Sri Lanka and US-based New Fortress Energy Inc.

This is in the backdrop of opposition lawmakers including former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe inquiring as to why the Government had not been able to table the Yugadanavi Power Plant agreement in Parliament.

Dissanayake said that the agreement contained a clause which barred both parties from disclosing any details without the explicit consent from each party.

He said that the property of this country belongs to the public and that neither the Finance Minister nor the Treasury Secretary has been assigned full control over the sale of assets in the country.

"Therefore, the people have a right to know the details regarding the transfer of shares," he said, noting that the government had failed to disclose the agreement despite repeated requests under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
