The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has decided to launch a new national plan to find solutions to the country’s current social, economic, and political crises.

JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake says that the party will welcome opinions from scholars, professionals, artists, trade union representatives, civil society activists as well the general public.

He emphasized that changes were needed in all areas, including in the fields of education, economy, law, health, and agriculture.

He further noted that debt management and re-evaluation of development projects need to be done expeditiously.

Contaminated Chinese fertiliser

Commenting on the ship carrying contaminated Chinese fertiliser, Dissanayake called on the government to abstain from reversing the decision taken by the Port and Agriculture officials to bar the ship carrying a consignment of organic fertiliser from entering the Colombo Port.

According to media reports however, the bulk carrier 'Hippo Spirit' carrying the contaminated Chinese fertiliser was spotted in Sri Lankan waters.

The JVP Leader said that the entire bio-diversity of the country could be affected if harmful microorganisms enter the country.

“The forceful interventions from the Qingdao Seawin Biotech Group Co. Ltd and the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka in this regard must be stopped. The Chinese Company cannot decide on what we should allow into our country. Those decisions must be made by our authorities and the foreign countries must respect such decisions,” he stressed.
