The government is paving the way for crony capitalism by providing concessions to multi-millionaire racketeers instead of serving the people, Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa said.

Although it was the government’s responsibility to serve the people at this difficult juncture, they are only focused on serving their cronies while corruption and malpractices are rampant in the country as evidenced by the Antigen case and NMRA data loss case while the general public are undergoing immense difficulties as a result, he noted.

He reiterated that the SJB as a responsible Opposition was doing its utmost to alleviate the sufferings of the people.

He made these remarks after donating medical equipment worth over LKR 3,090,000 under the Opposition Leader's "Vipakshayen Husmak" programme at the Opposition Leader's Office in Colombo on Thursday (10).

Sajith Premadasa noted that the government is wasting public funds by appointing monitoring MPs to oversee development activities.

He said that if there is any genuine concern for the people, especially at a time when the country is facing an economic crisis, the government should focus all its efforts towards providing relief to the people instead of nurturing and developing parliamentarians.
