Even though patriotism changes from one generation to another, what truly makes us a true patriot are our choices, 17 year-old entrepreneur Kaushika Withanage said.

As a young entrepreneur living in a digital age, he said that a true patriot should be a modern person who is capable of filtering accurate information.

He made these observations at the first press briefing of the 'True Patriots' initiative launched by Mangala Samaraweera that was held at the Freedom Hub in Colombo on Sunday (25).

Speaking further he said:

"When I wanted to know who a true patriot is, my first instinct was to google it like how most Gen Zs' would do.

I went for my second option and asked a couple of friends as to who a true patriot is.

They said it’s not their thing because they think it’s related to politics.

What makes us a true patriot are our choices, the way we live and how we choose to live.

In fact, true patriotism comes from loving our home, that’s where we start.

And we really don’t mean to drive our home to destruction because we truly love it.

But majority of people lived in senior generations has lead this country to destruction in the name of patriotism which means that wasn’t true patriotism.

As a young entrepreneur, I believe that even patriotism changes from one generation to another.

We live in a digital age, an information based society and in my opinion, a true patriot should be a modern person who is capable of filtering accurate information, and treating everyone equally.

A true patriot should think globally and act locally. I am a true patriot."
