Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) founder Basil Rajapaksa has fulfilled all requirements to run for President, SLPP National List MP Prof. Ranjith Bandara said.

"What does he lack in terms of qualifications to run for the highest office? He has all the qualifications. If Basil Rajapaksa was around, there wouldn't have been a fuel price hike," he said.

Speaking to reporters after an event, the parliamentarian said that Basil Rajapaksa was the central figure behind Mahinda Rajapaksa and Gotabaya Rajapaksa's presidential bids in 2005 and 2019 respectively, adding that if Basil was able to achieve all that, he is more than qualified to run for president.

'Basil Sulanga'

Meanwhile, Basil Rajapaksa, who had left for the United States last month, is set to return to the island tomorrow (23).

SLPP sources said that the 2024 presidential election bid - 'Basil Sulanga' will be initiated thereafter.

Accordingly, they have decided to launch the 'Basil Sulanga' movement by reducing the fuel prices.
