The fuel price hike was a collective decision taken by the Government led by the President and the Prime Minister, Agriculture Minister Mahindannda Aluthgamage said.

Responding to the controversy surrounding the sudden hike in fuel prices on Derana TV's '360' programme, he said that he was unaware of the 'invisible hand' responsible for the statement issued by the General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).

Noting that he didn't know whether SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam was airing his personal opinion or that of the party, the Agriculture Minister said that he doesn't accept or approve the statement issued by Kariyawasam and called on him to withdraw his statement.

He further said that forces within the government itself have raised questions as to who this 'invisible hand' could be and reiterated that the government should conduct its affairs in a more responsible manner.
