The Chairman of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and Education Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris rushed to the Abayaramaya Temple yesterday evening (15) after SLPP MP Wijeydasa Rajapakshe PC, slammed the government over the Port City Economic Commission Bill at a press briefing held at the Abayaramaya Temple on Thursday.
While claiming that two American citizens are looting the country, Wijeydasa Rajapakshe pointed out that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has not been making any decisions of his own accord and that all decisions related to governance are taken by "Mr. 20%".
“Gotabaya Rajapaksa is only a puppet of Basil Rajapaksa,” he said.
The Chief Incumbent of Abayaramaya, Ven, Muruththetuwe Ananda Thero also joined Wijeydasa Rajapakshe at the press briefing where both proceeded to criticise the government for trying to hand over the Colombo Port City to China through the Port City Economic Commission Bill.
However, Education Minister Prof. G.L Peiris, who is considered to be a member of the Basil faction of the SLPP, has assured Ven. Ananda Thero that the government will take remedial measures and resolve any issues immediately.
Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena, who has also visited the Abayaramaya as a representative of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, has proposed to resolve any internal conflicts within the government through discussions.
Minister Gunawardena, known to be a member of the anti-Basil Rajapaksa camp of the SLPP, was also the first person to suggest that the party should look into nominating Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa as the next presidential candidate if Gotabaya Rajapaksa decides not to contest the next presidential election.
