Furthermore, it is said that Basil Rajapaksa has requested the President to inform the group including Minister Wimal Weerawansa to refrain from forming separate factions in the government.
The sources also said that Basil Rajapaksa has cautioned the President that a government with a two-thirds majority should always act in unison and should not in any way allow moves to create factions within the government.

On January 30, the Leader of the National Freedom Front and Industries Minister Wimal Weerawansa met with the leaders of member parties of the SLPP to discuss the possibility of taking action against a cabinet paper on the sale of the Colombo Port's Eastern Container Terminal.
Minister Weerawansa had invited the leaders of 10 political parties for the discussion.

At the last cabinet meeting, Ministers Namal Rajapaksa, Johnston Fernando, Prasanna Ranatunga and Rohitha Abeygunawardena had castigated Wimal Weerawansa and the 'nationalist groups' affiliated to the government for their conduct during the ECT issue.
