The Sri Lankan community in the Middle East has requested President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to allow migrant workers who have received the Covid-19 vaccine to be quarantined in their own homes upon their return.

In a letter to the President, they have urged the government to consider allowing all those who have been inoculated to be subjected to home quarantine without being directed to hotels or state-run quarantine centres.

A copy of the letter was also handed over to Malraj Silva, the Sri Lankan Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates.

They noted that the countries in the Middle East have been able to control the Covid pandemic compared to other regions.

They pointed out that all employees in the UAE are required to get vaccinated and that the government has introduced an official app where individuals can receive their COVID-19 test results.

Accordingly, the Middle East Sri Lankan Community has requested the President to allow them to be home quarantined when they return to Sri Lanka for a 28-day vacation which they are entitled to after a year of service.
