The EPDP has claimed its paramilitary past to be a qualification to support a future NPP government by president Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Both were armed groups with leftist traditions and have the same principles, and therefore the EPDP has a good understanding with the JVP, its leader Douglas Devananda told the media in Jaffna on 29 September.
Devananda, Dissanayake and Vijitha Herath were ministers in the Chandrika Kumaratunga government in 2004 too.
Speaking further, he expressed confidence the EPDP would be able to ally with the new government that will be formed following the parliamentary polls.
