A meeting chaired by former President Ranil Wickremesinghe with senior members of the United National Party (UNP) was held this evening, The Morning learns.
A senior UNPer told The Morning that it was decided that the UNP would invite the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) to form a common platform to contest the upcoming Parliamentary election.
The decision was reached, having taken into account the calls made by the public that the two groups re-unite in order to present a formidable front at the upcoming polls.
The UNP senior also noted that it was further decided that discussions with other parties would also take place in order to present a united front against the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP)-led National People’s Power (NPP).
The meeting was also attended by UNP Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardena and Thalatha Athukorala.
