From January 1 to September 15 this year, the Excise Department has earned a record revenue of Rs. 152 billion.
During the period from January 1 to September 15, 2023, the Department collected Rs. 122 billion.
Excise Commissioner General M.J. Gunasiri said that the increase in revenue in the first nine-and-a-half months of this year compared to the same period last year was 25 percent.
In 2023, the Department has earned Rs.179 billion.
Gunasiri said that his Department has targeted Rs. 232 billion as revenue this year.
He said that he is thankful to all the officers of his Department for increasing the revenue in this way even though the Excise Department is facing a staff shortage.
