The Election Commission has planned a curb on social media in the 48-hour silent period before the presidential polls to prevent any campaigning and mud-slinging.
That will be done in collaboration with the TRC and the companies that run the social media handles.
Campaigning for the 21st September election ends at midnight on the 18th.
aruna.lk quoted commission chairman R.M.A.L. Ratnayake as saying that most social media campaigns during the silent period occur from overseas.
